SARAJEVO. BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA.
3nights stay.
07.01.2021
On completing my stay in Moster Bosnia Hertzegovina, i took the train along the lovely
scenic route to Sarajevo. This is the capital city. Arriving at Sarajevo dismal station, asked my
way to Hotel Grand. It's discription was " near rail station" I walked the 150m to a rail
level crossing, then the 150m the other side ,back. The outside of the hotel building
was drab, but inside comfy . After settling in i went to reception, the friendly man told
me of a short cut to town. This was, at the other end of the car park was a narrow
path down to the rail tracks at the rear of station. This looked well used. There are
not many trains. -- On my first outing to town i walked., passing the Holiday Inn, famous for
during the Bosnian War, it was the place of International newspaper men. Returning to
the hotel i used the number one tram. Near the rail station front is the Avaz Twist
Tower, 172m high skyscraper. It is Newspaper offices. There are 40 floors with 7 lifts. I took
a lift to the top viewing area.[ The view shows that Sarajevo is in a long valley with
the river Mickjako. The mountains are the Dinaric Alps. From the top i could see my
hotel at the rear of the rail station, with the narrow path clearly shown. The sides
of the river have roads so it is easily walkable, as is the compact city centre.
